Over 100 Years of Experience – Introducing the School Executive

The School Executive Team provides leadership of the entire school. Together we have over 100 years of experience in education across 5 schools, in the Public, Christian and Independent Education Sectors. Additionally, we bring over 100 years of combined parenting experience, with 14 children and 7 grandchildren between us and prior experience and learnings from six different industries.

Our role includes both the highly structured world of things like strategic planning, analysis of school performance data, policy drafting, emergency procedures, compliance, budgeting, staffing and enrolments as well as the highly unpredictable such as assisting families in crisis, dressing up in Book Week, representing the school in all manner of community events, partaking in charity challenges and impromptu public speaking.

If you haven’t yet met the team, the school executive consists of;

  • Malcolm East – Principal, who has previously been both a Head of Junior School (K-4) and a Head of Senior School (9-12);

  • John Rolland – Associate Principal & Head of Primary, who has previously been a Deputy Principal and Acting Principal before becoming Associate Principal;

  • Kathryn O’Rourke – Head of Secondary, who has previously run school festivals with over 1,000 student participants and trained pre-service teachers at Newcastle Uni; and

  • Luke Kirkegard – Support Services Manager, who also has a leadership role in his church where he somehow still finds the time to regularly lead worship

The school executive are ably supported by Heather Malone - Executive Assistant, who was previously the Chair and is the current Company Secretary for the HCS School Board.

How Your Views Shape our Strategic Planning

Your feedback informs our strategic planning. Each year we identify strategic priorities as part of our larger vision and long-term planning.

As part of our planning process, we survey Parents, Students and Staff in our Annual School Surveys. Your responses to the Annual School Survey were shared with the School Board at their last meeting and this week, the School Executive Team will spend two days, reviewing your comments, evaluating response data, identifying themes and comparing with other available data to inform our plans for the future.

In the week before the students return at the end of July, We will be working through the survey results and our planning process with the school staff as a whole.

For parents, the best way to learn about our school strategy, our vision, our short and long-term plans for the future, exciting new developments and to celebrate our achievements so far is to come to our Vision Showcase Dinner to be held in August. Stay tuned for details, it will be a night not to be missed.

Announcing the Recipient of the Annual School Survey Prize

We have been delighted with the number of responses to our Annual School Survey. We had 97 parents respond and we offered a prize draw for any respondent who replied with the code phrase “A night out”.

It is our pleasure to announce Kasey Matheson as the recipient of a $100 Gift Voucher to Scratchley’s as a practical blessing from the school.
