Hunter Christian School Mountain Bike Team News – the Rocky Trail Entertainment Shimano Grand Prix Series wraps up for 2019
After travelling around the state for five events spread across half a year, the students, staff and parents from the Hunter Schools’ Mountain Bike Team (MTB), have just concluded the Rocky Trail Entertainment Shimano Grand Prix (GP) series!
Long drives in the Hunter Christian School bus took us to venues across NSW, such as Stromlo Forest MTB Park in Canberra and the Wingello State forest in the Southern Highlands. The June event on our “local turf” at Glenrock came with a welcome home-town advantage, (and a sleep in!), before we headed off to Nowra State Forest ‘Coondoo’ for an epic weekend of fast, flat riding by day and shared living quarters in the one house by night! The final round in August at the Ourimbah State Forest was possibly the most challenging of the series, full of rocky descents and up-hill pedaling.
Congratulations must go to all the mountain bike riders who participated in the 2019 race series! Our own MTB race team dominated the General Classification across all race formats, securing podium finishes for the following members:
FAST GP – 4hour Format (under 18s)
2nd Liam, 3rd Jayson
FURIOUS GP – 7hour Format Solo (under 18)
1st Isaac, 2nd Joshua, 3rd Thomas
The team also had some podium finishes in the following races:
Solo (GC)
1st Jason English
Pairs (under 18)
1st Team Gateshead Cycles – Joseph and Noah
2nd Team Suez – Harry and Rubin
Pairs (GC)
3rd Paul and Rod
As usual, we must acknowledge our sponsors whose generous support is much appreciated and makes it possible for our team to participate in an awesome series event such as this.
