Sports & physical wellbeing

We believe that a focus on the whole child is important to healthy development in every area of life. Encouraging students to become physically as well as mentally active will benefit them beyond their school years and well into adult life.

Activity & Motion – the A.M. Program

The A.M. Program is one of Hunter Christian School's innovations and is believed to be the first of its kind in NSW with other schools now starting to adopt this unique and highly successful program.

A.M. is a daily exercise program for students in Years 5, 6, 7 and 8. Students start every day with 30 minutes of physical activity, ranging from ball skills to modified team games and dance. This program, first trialled in 2007, continues to have outstanding success in preparing students for learning during the day, as well as developing active lifestyle habits.

Sports Competition Opportunities

Students are provided the opportunity to participate in and excel at many individual and team sports. Annually, students have the opportunity to participate in the following school wide events:

  • Cross Country Running
  • Swimming Carnival
  • Athletics Carnival

In addition to these there are regular opportunities to participate in Gala days against other schools in team sports such as:

  • Cricket
  • Soccer
  • Rugby league
  • Basketball
  • Volleyball
  • Futsal

The Christian Schools Sporting Association and Combined Independent Schools organisations provide the opportunity for Hunter Christian School teams and individuals to compete at higher levels against other students and teams from Independent schools across the state, including Catholic, Grammar and other Independent schools. The final level of representation for students is All Schools. Students compete against other elite athletes from all schools across NSW or Australia. This is the highest level of school-based competition.
